Cub Scouts

Boys and Girls in Kindergarten thru Fifth Grade (ages 5-10).

Scouting is a year-round program uniquely designed to meet the needs of the full family. The program offers fun and challenging activities that promote character development and physical fitness.

Cub Scouts have the time of their lives making new friends and learning new things in an environment designed to help them succeed. From building a Pinewood Derby® car to learning how to roast the perfect marshmallow at a family camp out, your child will LOVE being a Cub Scout.

Scouts BSA

Boys and Girls (separate Troops) ages 11-17

This is the traditional Scouting experience for youth in the fifth grade through high school. Service, community engagement and leadership development become increasingly important parts of the program as youth lead their own activities and work their way toward earning Scouting’s highest rank, Eagle Scout.

Exposure to a uniquely hands-on learning experience and the opportunity to earn merit badges reflecting each Scout’s interests, youth unlock a world of discovery around them and forge a path for the future.

The Boy Scouts of America is one of the nation’s largest and most prominent values-based youth development organizations, providing programs for young people that build character.

Venturing

Co-ed – Boys and Girls ages 14-20

With Venturing, the choice of activities is yours!  Venturing is youth-led and youth-inspired. You’ll acquire life skills and gain experiences that will prove to be valuable regardless of where your future takes you, all while having a blast: leadership, event-planning, organization, communication, responsibility – the list goes on! Each activity — planned by the youth — provides an opportunity to shine and learn more about yourself and the world around you.

Venturing is an inclusive program through the Boy Scouts of America for males and females aged 14-20 (or 13 and completed the 8th grade). It’s operated through Venturing Crews, units of youth and advisors that meet on set schedules and plan activities and events for youth like you!  Find a crew near you and join the fun!

Sea Scouts

Co-ed – Boys and Girls ages 14-20

For over 100 years Sea Scouting has promoted better citizenship and improved members’ boating skills through instruction and practice in water safety, boating skills, outdoor, social, service experiences, and knowledge of our maritime heritage. Living in Michigan makes taking part in water activities easy; multiple Sea Scout ships can be found that engage in different types of activities and have different focuses.

Sea Scout units– called ships- are established all across the country on oceans, bays, rivers, and lakes. They provide limitless opportunities and exciting challenges that you won’t find anywhere else. Sea Scouts is a place to grow and learn, find adventure, and build long lasting friendships.

Exploring

Co-ed – Boys and Girls ages 10-20

Exploring provides exciting activities and one-on-one mentorship for youth looking to discover their future. Whether you’re a local organization looking to strengthen the community or a young person wanting to uncover the possibilities of your future, Exploring is a great place to start.

Explorers take part in a unit that is dedicated to a specific career-path.  Journalism, Police, Fire, Engineering, Health Care — you name the career, the opportunity to join and/or create a unit around it is there.

Visit BeAScout.org, enter your ZIP CODE and choose your PROGRAM.  You will see all of the units local to you, along with their meeting information, websites, and/or contact information.  We highly recommend you reach out to the unit (click the REQUEST MORE INFORMATION) button and visit a meeting or two.  Find the unit that “fits” your youth.

Once you find your unit on BeAScout.org, you can register and * pay online right from the listing!

* NOTE: Fees collected online represent those that are for registration and program fees to the national and council organization.  Each individual unit (Troop, Pack, etc.) may assess yearly “dues” to cover the cost of books, neckerchiefs, awards, and other unit program specific items.

Annual Fees 2024 (effective April 1):   $170/youth for the year

Now that your Scout is registered, it is time to consider purchasing a uniform.  Talk to your unit (Troop, Pack, Crew, Ship, etc.) about expectations for uniforms.  Some require pants and/or hats, and others do not (or have their own custom hats, for example).  A uniform checklist will help make your shopping experience easier..  You can purchase uniforms online from the MCC Online Scout Shop or visit a Scout Shop near you.

Oh, the adventures your Scout will have!  Your Scout’s unit (Troop, Pack, Crew, Ship, etc.) will have a list of amazing things planned for the upcoming year, so make sure you take part in them.  There are also many events you can take part in as a family or on their own.  Make sure you check out the upcoming Events on our calendar (hint:  you can filter by “Activities” or “Summer Camp” and then also by program type).
